Day 36 - Day of Basically......Nothing!

The rain started in earnest in the middle of the night....I could hear it tap, tap, tapping throughout the night.  No wind.....just rain.  It was pleasant and tapped out a warning for the coming day.  The forecast is for overcast sky and rain all day.  The weatherman did not disappoint.

It's "moving day" today.  All our things need to be sorted through and packed.  What stays and what goes?  Since we decided to keep the house and NOT rent it, it makes our decisions about what we leave a little easier.  Gordon and I have both brought and left clothing.  Clothes for lounging; clothes for walking; clothes for working out; clothes for going out.  For me that includes a dress clutch, dress shoes and dress coat.  For Gordon dress black pants and shoes.  We've left hiking boots and tennis shoes; scarves, gloves and hats and warm boots and rain jackets.  Shampoo, razor's, lotion and potions! Jammies and slippers, sox and undergarments.

Our suitcases are weighing very close to maximum weight with the things we are taking home and our purchased gifts.  What's new!  I'm always bordering on maximum when I travel....I can't seem to get away from it.

Maureen called late morning to make plans to see each other.  We agreed to meet at Brodies - the restaurant of little service!  It didn't disappoint either!  Gordon and I arrived first and, after about 15 minutes, flagged someone to order a drink.  Beer for Gordon and a "Scottish" vodka and tonic for me with a twist.  Gordon's beer was unavailable (after about another 5 minutes) so he makes another choice and after at least another 5 minutes the server dude arrives with Gordon's beer and my vodka, with no ice, and soda...not tonic!  Oh well.  Maureen arrives and orders a red wine and we visit.  AND we make the decision that we do not want to eat here so out we go to the Buccleuch for a late lunch.  We did make a reservation just in case....good idea.

On to a second drink for all three of us and a very nice lunch of Sunday roast with roast potatoes and veggies and gravy and Yorkshire pudding.  Delicious and very Fall.  I comment to Maureen that it will be at least another 6 weeks before we have this kind of Fall food in California and remember how fortunate we are to have such an extended summer!  More wine and Sticky Toffee Pudding!  A delicious dessert we have put off for weeks! Ummmmmmmm, finally!

The conversation is so good we must forge on.....so off we go to Maureen's very comfortable home for more wine and talk of old times.  I so enjoy learning about Maureen's life - she and Tom ran a hotel/pub; she raised two children; she has two granddaughters; and numerous relationships with female friends.  I find her fascinating.

We started the day with Maureen about 1:00pm and left her around 8:00pm.  By then Gordon and I were feeling "peckish" for fish and chips from the "chippy" something we have managed to avoid for 4 weeks!  But since we are walking home from Maureen's, what the heck.....let's stop.

So Gordon is in the chippy for 2 fish suppers and a black pudding for himself (wouldn't touch the stuff personally but).......................and I take some evening pictures:

Here comes fossil boy turned into Fish and Chip boy!

Aye, f&c boy.

The house Isa was originally interested in buying called St. Bernard's.
Ugh, pigged out on fish and chips and big glasses of water.  Wish I hadn't done it honestly but what's a trip to Scotland if you don't have the requisite fish and chips!?

Hunter called when we returned and wants to meet up tomorrow.  We were hoping to see him before we left.

I'll make a quick trip to the Deli in the morning for a few local, Moffat made, products and Paul, the local taxi guy, picks us up to take us to Edinburgh at 4:00pm to spend the night before we fly out on Tuesday.   Maureen has convinced us that we want to go to Mussel Inn on Rose Street in Edinburgh tomorrow.  It's something to look forward to....though leaving is not something we look forward to.  We are having very mixed feelings today.  The end of a good vacation is always hard accept.
