Airport and Roslyn - Day 17

Today's an exciting day as our friend Charli is coming to town!

I finally slept without a sleeping tablet last night....up in the middle of the night...but back to bed and slept until 9.  Wasn't long until we needed to leave to pick Charli up in Edinburgh arriving at 1:00-pm.  From Moffat we usually take the Edinburgh Road (the 701) which takes about an hour and one half.  However, we decided to take a short cut up the M76 (the freeway) cutting across at Biggar and coming out above Penicuik and another short hop to the airport cutting off between 15 and 20 minutes  We were wrong....it took longer. "Road works" stopped us 3 or 4 times on our way and we ended up racing to the airport.

The drive through the Clyde River Valley toward Biggar.

Gordon dropped me and parked the car and I had time to "pee" (2 cups of tea before we left the house) before I met with Charli just as I was coming out of the "loo". Hello to our girl, she's off to the loo and we head out to meet with GC before we are off.

It is SO windy today our hair is standing on end and we decide to go to the Roslyn Chapel to stretch our legs and take in a bit of history before we drive down to "our town."

We were able to catch the beginning of the Chapel tour which was thoroughly interesting and then a self-guided tour.  Gordon and I have been to Rosyln between 4 and 5 times and each time it's completely mesmerizing.   This time was no different.  The Chapel is over 600 years old and is still owned by the St. Claire family.  Dan Brown made the Chapel famous in the Da Vinci Code and there are thousands of people who come through now.

A downspout!

The old entry.

The new entry.

Charli and Gordon!
We are not allowed to take pictures inside the Chapel any more so the pictures you see are what you get.

Once we are back in Moffat Charli gets settled and we have some cheese and crackers gearing us up for Chari's Scotch, Gordon's beer and my vodka!  We visit, we laugh, we look at Charli's pictures of Amsterdam.....we catch up and then off down the hill for another drink at the pub and traditional dinner.

Tonight we are tired and ready for a good snooze and hopefully cheerier weather tomorrow.  We are all in need of a good long walk and a little sunshine.

It's fun having friends visit.  It's interesting looking at our town through their eyes.  So far so good!

......except for the weather of course!

An old tomb.
