The Castle on the Mound - Day 23

Today we buggered off to Edinburgh.  First stop - South Queensbury so we could see the bridges.  The Forth Road Bridge....and the Forth Rail Bridge.  Very original names eh?

Road

Rail

You can just see a cruise ship in and there's a barge too.

The little street in Queensferry

An early 1600's building

Charming

Double-decker!
Then we checked into the Marriott and headed to the "City Center" via double-decker bus.  Charli and I have the best view!
A portion of Prince's Street gardens looking toward the Scott's Monument.

Red, yellow and orange berry Rowan trees.

Scottish flags flying!

Up, up to the Royal Mile.

The castle in the far distance.

and up and up....

to the Royal Mile!

Charli likes the bagpiper!

and William is still apparently hanging around!

View from one of the Castle Batteries.

The Episcopal Church spires.

She's definitely interested in the bagpipers!

I'm interested in what he has on under the kilt!

The view past St. Margaret's Chapel...the oldest building standing in Edinburgh.

Giant piece of art in the Great Hall.

Castle buildings...

and Castle clock.
Whew, all that Castle viewing makes one thirsty!  So we head to Deacon Brodies on the Royal Mile for a pint or a scotch.  Deacon Brodies is a beautiful old pub full of atmosphere and a beautiful tin ceiling!

Gordon at the bar....note the tin ceiling.

Scotch for Charli, 1/2 pint for Sharon and pint for Gordon.

Another scotch for Charli, another 1/2 pint for Sharon and another pint for Gordon!  Feeling good!

St. Giles Cathedral.

Stop number 2 on our pub crawl, the Guilford Arms.

Guilford Arms tin ceiling.  It's a beautiful tavern.

Good friends!

Third stop, Cafe Royal for dinner of Beef Pie, Haggis and Sausage and Mash!  Yum-yum!
After a full day and delicious meal it's time for one more walk around down past The Dome and inside for a peak.  Then a walk along beautiful Rose Street.....one of my favorite streets in Edinburgh.   And we stop for another glass at a wine bar before hopping in a taxi and back to the hotel.  I must confess, we were all a little drunk by the time we got back but we slept soundly.

Tomorrow we are looking at our other properties in Edinburgh - a bookies office and an empty flat in Leith!  This should be interesting.  And then we'll putter around town and see what's what!

P.S. just a smattering of rain today!  We were lucky.
