Got up early this morning and headed out for a short walk before our "English" breakfast! Grasmere is a very nice, clean, well kept village - some place that I've been wanting to go for some time. Unfortunately I screwed up our reservations so we've only got one night booked and we were hoping to do some serious hiking while here. There is availability for tonight but we are just exhausted and so close to home and ready to get going so we've decided to have a slow morning and leave at a reasonable hour.
The Moss Grove Organic is a very nice hotel obviously. |

We had our all organic breakfast which was delicious - fresh fruit, organic boiled eggs, lovely unsweetened blueberry jam, organic yogurt and organic Cumbrian sausages. We each enjoyed a long bath in that glorious tub and then packed up and backtracked to the village of Windermere to buy some wines for the remainder of our trip and some Cumbrian sausages for dinner. Along the way we had to pause for lake pictures. I love it when the mountain is mirrored on the lake.
We took a new route back to the M6 also known as "The North" in Scotland and drove through some lovely scenic mountains.
Now we are home and I've added up all our miles over the last 10 days including Irish Sea miles. We have traveled 1,411 miles and our teeny-tiny car did great. Back home the laundry is in process, Gordon has gotten the car cleaned and I walked down to get a few veggies to enjoy with our sausages. Andy, the fishmonger stopped by while I was in the village visiting with Paul, the taxi guy, and now we have some delicious salmon for Friday's dinner. It's nice to NOT eat out! Maureen has called to invite us round for dinner on Saturday night and we are enjoying a glass of red while waiting for news of the referendum. Will Scotland be independent as of tomorrow morning? Our opinions have changed in the last 10 days and are anxious for the outcome.
It's been a wonderful, interesting, warm and beautiful trip through southern Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales and England and back again. Check that off the bucket list!! That makes 22 countries we've seen.
